History of Lalbagh

    The history of Lalbagh can be traced back to the 18th century when it was commissioned by Hyder Ali, the ruler of Mysore. Initially, the garden was used to grow vegetables and fruits for the royal family, but later it was expanded and turned into a botanical garden by his son Tipu Sultan.

    During Tipu Sultan's reign, several exotic trees and plants were brought from different parts of the world and planted in Lalbagh. In the 19th century, the British took over the garden and added several new species of plants, including the famous Lalbagh glasshouse.
